Game day!
So I was doing some shopping for dinner right before the Super Bowl is beginning. For the record, very bad time to shop, since the store was packed. For some reason, I didn't think it would be that bad. Its kind of funny, in that I don't watch football. I used to be into it when I was younger, but it really has lost a lot of appeal to me. I couldn't tell you almost anything that is currently going on with the nfl currently. Anyways, I was shopping because I felt like making myself some sweedish meatballs and noticing all the crowd at the store. Obviously a lot of the shopping was superbowl themed, lots of people in the snack aisle and things like that, and it reminded me of both an early memory and little about the objectification thing.
When I was still living with family or friends after that, there was always a superbowl party. Depending on who I lived with, there were many other get togethers as well. Some even for every sports game of the year. Other times, a Dungeons and Dragons night, or a LAN party and so on. One of my early memories of first noticing the different between men and women were how often the women would crowd around the kitchen during these get togethers while the guys just relaxed. Usually it was the girls who would be making the food and bringing it out to the guys. I noticed it more because I would usually be talking to people and only barely paying attention to whatever theg ame was.
So clearly you see the gender roles implication there, so I won't spend too much time talking about it. So as I've chronicled before, I'm very attracted to the more dominant type of man. Also, this party or public gathering thing also kind of seeded my early recongiznition of male superiority. Everyone enjoyed the party, but there was next to no responsibility for the party on the men (other then bbqing sometimes) whereas women got their enjoyment after the cooking/serving and stuff like that was done, or during it.
So while shopping today, it made me think about how likely I'll be in the kind of position at some point in the next three years. Shopping not for myself, but for food for whatever get together was going on. That I may be spending hours in the kitchen or serving the guys while they enjoy themselves. Certainly an intersting thought. I feel like there is more to say about this, but, i'm kind of drawing a blank now, so I'll leave it at that, hehe.
