Housewife intangibles #1 - Food
When I started thinking about this particular topic it occured to me that this may be the beginning of a series of blog entries, so here to hoping this is just the first entree. :) So one of my lifestyle changes that I made a little ago obviously a calorie reduction. Both to slim down and also just have appropriate amount of eating for a girl compared to what I guy would. Reducing the calories wasn't that big of deal, but it made me start caring a lot more of wear the calories come from. For example, I have always not been into candy or boxed bakery goods (like twinkies) for my whole life. The reason has always been they are tasty but not worth the calories to me. Same reason I never got french fries from fast food places. I like them, but when I saw the calories on them they aren't worth it.
Now that i'm "counting calories" and thus the amount of food I can eat every day is reduced, I am doing this to a whole new level. There are many foods i've liked in teh past but not sure they are worth the calories. For example, I love italian food like pizza and lasgana and such, but when I see the calories on those they aren't worth it. Because of this, I started making more food for myself at home. Something I've been meaning to do and already started as one of my "woman" goals to just be a better girl, but the calorie reduction has really motivated me to doing that as well.
To give an example, I really like Mexican food as well, specifically burrititos. I've always been able to make some good burritos as home for myself, but when I looked at the calories, it wasn't worth it to me. So I started looking for ways to both decrease the calories and increase the fillingness of it. The other day I made myself some burritoes successfully at 1/3 the normal calories, probably about double the health value when I looked at the nutrients and at a cost of probably about 20% of the deliciousness factor. Looking at those numbers, a pretty great trade off and thus this brings us to this blog topic!
I have always known there are many benifits to a family having a housewife and there are many articles about how much money this could save a family. Baby sitting is probably the biggest example. By the way, its expensive! If you don't believe me look it up. Oh! Dont make that think I have kids, I have no children, but I work with people who do have kids, lol. Anyways! I always thought the benifit of a housewife in the cooking deparment was just more home made delicious food. Along with variety. Maybe a little saving money in terms eating in more then eating out, but OMG I completely underestimated that!
Take the example I just stated above. I made myself burritos, which is about the same taste as I would get eating out, maybe a little less. But they were healthier, lower calories and cheaper. The best terms I can think of is how this basically increased the quality of my food intake. And thus the idea of the housewife intagibles title. This is something a woman/housewife provides a family that is very expensive or hard or time consuming to duplicate especially with the customization thrown in.
